Resumen

RESUMEN: El complejo hiperplasia endometrial quística (HEQ) - piómetra, es una enfermedad hormonal progesterona dependiente del útero de la perra y la gata, que cursa con una complicación infecciosa, prevaleciendo la infección por E. coli. Durante la fase lútea del ciclo estral, la progesterona alcanza altos niveles sanguíneos, y es la principal responsable de esta entidad patológica. Esta afección compromete no sólo el potencial reproductivo de la paciente, sino que puede también conducirla a la muerte. Este complejo presenta una elevada prevalencia y se observa frecuentemente en hembras de edad media y viejas, o bien en hembras jóvenes que han recibido tratamientos hormonales. El objetivo de la presente revisión es describir los aspectos más relevantes del complejo hiperplasia endometrial quística (HEQ) - piómetra.
