Abstract

Colombia exhibits a remarkable diversity of long horned beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), an immense family which includes in its geography emblematic groups such as the longicorn of the genera Chalcoprionus Bates, 1875 (Macrodontiini) and Braderochus Buquet, 1852 (Prionini) that stand out for their rarity in national collections and for the fractional nature of their geographic records, which is why this research set out to provide data on the distribution of Colombian species. The methodology included a review of the literature and of some copies of national collections (that of the author CFPL-COL and the MHN Universidad de Caldas). On Chalcoprionus badeni Bates, the male is illustrated for the first time, next to the female. Data are recorded from three specimens collected in very humid forests of La Cristalina stream, Calima basin (1400-1600 masl), Municipality of Darien, Western
Cordillera, Valle del Cauca, and the original records in Antioquia and the conservation priority for this magnificent species are also discussed. Braderochus Buquet was represented by four species as follows: B. dentipes (Chemsak, 1979) (Chocó), B. hovorei (Santos-Silva & Martins, 2005) (Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander), B. levoiturieri (Buquet, 1842) (Caldas, Boyacá, Santander) and B. retrospinosus (Lameere, 1916) (Meta, Caquetá). The new data, in addition to being novel, reiterates a precarious state of knowledge and a very relictual distribution map, estimating a uncertain survival expectation. The conservation of all these remarkable and endemic species, included among the pillars of the genealogy of the Neotropical Prioninae, constitutes a priority aspect, which should articulate the study, establishment and management of conservation areas.
